Tesla Inc. faces a "make-or-break period" with the launch of its Model 3 electric car, The Wall Street Journal reported. The company needs to increase output of the new car "or possibly face severe financial consequences." Tesla, headed by Elon Musk, is now in one of the most critical phases in its history, according to the Journal.

Cybersecurity Initiative Focuses on Manufacturing |
|
The Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII; Chicago) has begun a new cybersecurity initiative focused on manufacturing. The US Department of Defense (DoD) ponied up $750,000 to support the initiative in part because cybersecurity is in urgent need of the type of collaboration offered inside public-private partnerships like DMDII, said Tracy Frost, director of DoD manufacturing institutes and acting director of DoD manufacturing technology. Brett Brune, editor in chief of Smart Manufacturing magazine, has more.
