Boeing First-Quarter Profits Fall as 737 Max Impact Is Felt
Boeing Co.'s first-quarter earnings slid after its 737 Max aircraft was grounded globally and commercial plane orders declined. The aircraft maker also withdrew its 2019 financial forecast as it grapples with the impact of the 737 Max grounding. Boeing 737 Max crashes in October and March spurred regulators to ground the plane, one of the company’s most important aircraft.

Heavy equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. said that its first-quarter profit increased on higher sales and improved prices. Its per-share profit set a record for the first quarter. The news wasn’t all good, however, Caterpillar said revenue in its construction business in Asia fell 4 percent. China is an important market for the company. Caterpillar also said its manufacturing costs rose in part because of tariffs.
