More than 5,400 manufacturing professionals from around the country descended on the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston Feb. 26-28 for the biennial HOUSTEX event. Visitors at the event, produced by SME and AMT, interacted with more than 280 exhibiting companies occupying 65,610 square feet of exhibit space.

Machine Tool Orders Start 2019 Strong
Machine tool orders began 2019 with a strong January, said AMT-The Association for Manufacturing Technology in a monthly report. Orders totaled $396.31 million, the group said. It was the second-largest January order figure in the 22-year history of AMT’s U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders program. The highest January for orders was $402.02 million in 2012.

U.S. Cutting Tool Consumption Up 13.4 Percent in January
January 2019 U.S. cutting tool consumption totaled $208.27 million, according to the U.S. Cutting Tool Institute and AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. This total, as reported by companies participating in the Cutting Tool Market Report collaboration, was up 10.1 percent from December’s $189.1 million and up 13.4 percent when compared with the $183.6 million reported for January 2018.
