Machine Tool Orders Reach Highest Level in More Than 20 Years
Machine tool orders for August through October reached the highest level in more than 20 years, the Association for Manufacturing Technology said. Orders totaled $1.6 billion for that three-month period, McLean, VA-based AMT said in a report. That was the most since February through April in 1998. The 2018 period included this year's edition of IMTS, which normally boosts orders. But AMT said the figures showed vitality beyond IMTS.

Zeiss Breaks Ground on a New U.S. Center
Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology  held a groundbreaking ceremony on Dec. 12, for its new facility in metro Detroit. Located in Lyon Township, the new 82,000 square foot center will consolidate six existing locations in the region under one roof. The facility will include space for research, training, production, a demonstration center and offices—with the ability to do custom metrology work for smaller customers.
