Machine Tool Orders Surge in April Compared With a Year Earlier

Machine tool orders soared in April from a year earlier, AMT – The Association for Manufacturing Technology said. Orders for the month totaled $404.6 million, according to a monthly report. That was up 72 percent from $234.9 million in April 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic slammed the U.S. economy. Orders for the first four months of the year rose 40 percent compared with the same period in 2020.

The United States and the European Union have set aside a long-standing trade dispute about subisidies for Boeing and Airbus, The New York Times said. The U.S. and EU have opted to "work together to counter China’s global ambitions to dominate key industries," the newspaper reported. The accord "suspends the threat of billions of dollars in punitive tariffs on each other’s economies for five years," the Times said.
