Boeing Buys Control of Embraer's Commercial Aircraft Business Under Joint Venture
Boeing Co. (Chicago) agreed to buy control of the commercial aircraft business of Brazil's Embraer. Boeing will acquire an 80% stake, according to CNBC. The deal values Embraer's commercial aircraft unit at $4.75 billion and Boeing's stake at $3.8 billion. The joint venture "should make Boeing the market leader for smaller passenger jets, creating stiffer competition for the CSeries aircraft program designed by Canada's Bombardier and backed by European rival Airbus," CNBC said.

Edward Hightower, author of the book “Motoring Africa: Sustainable Automotive Industrialization," talked with Brett Brune, editor in chief of Smart Manufacturing, about a number of subjects. Hightower said the African market is wide open. "To put it in context, the African continent has 1.2 billion people living in 54 countries. Only about 1.1 million cars are manufactured on the continent," Hightower said. "Compare that to just the country of China, where there are 1.3 billion people and where 28 million cars are produced. So there’s definitely a very small ratio of vehicles produced on the African continent."
