Boeing Co. posted a quarterly loss as the worldwide grounding of the 737 Max hit the aircraft maker’s finances. Boeing lost $2.94 billion in the second quarter amid plunging commercial aircraft deliveries with the 737 Max grounded. It was Boeing's biggest quarterly deficit in a decade.

Industrial merger-and-acquisition activity increased in the second quarter, helped by one “megadeal,” consulting firm PwC said in a report. The number of M&A deals tracked by PwC edged up to 562 compared with 543 in 2019’s first quarter. Deal value advanced to $27 billion for the quarter, up from $21 billion the previous three months.

Four Automakers Cut Deal With Califronia to Tighten Emission Rules
Four automakers -- Ford, BMW, Volkswagen and Honda -- reached an agreement with California on fuel efficiency rules, Reuters reported. The move bypasses "a Trump administration effort to strip the state of the right to fight climate change by setting its own standards," according to the news service. The California pact calls for standards that are looser than rules set during the Obama administration but tighter than new standards proposed by the Trump admnistration. A legal fight is likely.
